2.4 I can describe the features, benefits and limitations of different collaborative technology tools and devices
Below I have explained the different devices with examples, and each with 2 advantages and 1 disadvantage.
1. Mobile Computing Devices
Description: A potable device that can be carried around in your pocket or bag that allows you to communicate with people via voice/video calls, SMS and Social Media
Example: Smartphone, Tablets and Laptops
Benefits: First benefit is you can communicate with your friends and family wherever you are with phone signal or data/wifi connection. Second benefit is users can keep up to date with the latest news due to live updates from the news and social media
Limitation: All portable devices need charging on a daily basis due to the battery lives not being able to hold the charge as the devices are constantly in use and becoming very powerful.
2. Headset
Description: A device that allows you to listen to sound on devices such as PC’s and portable devices. Some headsets have microphones built into them and can also be wireless.
Example: Beats and Sonos headsets
Benefits: Firstly users can multi task by being able to talk to people while playing computer games. Secondly holding a phone up to one ear can lead to poor posture, and over time causes many people to suffer from neck and back problems.
Limitation:

Description: Content management software (CMS) is a software application or set of related programs that are used to create and manage digital information.
Example: WordPress
Benefits: Firstly it is easy for the non-technically minded to use and manipulate the information for their own use. Secondly it can be simply customised allowing each user to be in control of what they see on a daily basis.
Limitation: It regularly needs updating to improve security as more viruses are released to try hack the software
4. Forum
Description: Websites that allow users to talk to each other about similar interests that they may have. Users can ask each other questions about topics or get advice about similar interests.
Example: The Student Room
Benefits: Firstly, users who are shy in person can ask questions about items they are unsure of in the forum and get answers almost instantly. Secondly, most forums are free to use just as long as users are willing to sign up by providing some personal details.
Limitation: Users can easily be bullied over forums and made to feel uncomfortable to no fault of their own.
5. VOIP (Voice over IP) Software
Description: Voice over Internet Protocol is a category of hardware and software that allows people to use the Internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls by sending voice data in packets using IP.
Example: Skype, Vonage
Benefits: Firstly users can make phone calls to people around the world via an internet connection and app for free. Also is it available on many devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops.
Limitation: Users must have an internet connections for the calls to work on the devices.
